How did John Newbery School get its name?

In 1992, students in the Wenatchee School District were invited to submit suggestions for names for our newest elementary school.  John Newbery was the name selected by the naming committee. An eighteenth century English publisher, John Newbery is credited with being the first person to create and publish books specifically for children.

John Newbery, the publisher, began a tradition of providing children with quality literature. John Newbery School embraces this tradition.
