About Our School |
| John Newbery Elementary
School is one of seven elementary schools in
the Wenatchee School District. Located at
the foothills of the Wenatchee Valley,
Newbery School opened in the Fall of 1993. The
K-5 school serves a diverse population of
approximately 560 students. |
| Newbery is the result of two
years of intensive planning and reflects practices
which combine community desires with current
research. The program design and instructional
strategies were developed to ensure success for all
students. |

| The purpose of John
Newbery Elementary School is to be a learning community that facilitates academic, social, and emotional growth. The vision of John Newbery Elementary School is to become a community of lifelong learners. |

DAY school. This model is based on the

their responsibilities without interference from

How did John Newbery School get its name?
|
In 1992, students in the Wenatchee School District were invited to submit suggestions for names for our newest elementary school. John Newbery was the name selected by the naming committee. An eighteenth century English publisher, John Newbery is credited with being the first person to create and publish books specifically for children.
John Newbery, the publisher, began a tradition of providing children with quality literature. John Newbery School embraces this tradition. |
