Newbery School PTA invites an author and/or illustrator to visit our school every few years. Our students and staff have made wonderful, long-lasting connections with authors and illustrators who have entertained and educated us about their experiences creating books.

We're had the pleasure of hosting several fine authors and illustrators at Newbery.

2004 - Ben Mikaelsen

Ben Mikaelsen informed, inspired and entertained us with stories about his life experiences and struggles to become a writer. We especially enjoyed his stories about raising his pet black bear, Buffy, from a cub.

2001 - Paul Owen Lewis

We were treated to an energetic display of this author/illustrator's techniques for creating books as Paul Owen Lewis shared Davy's Dreams, P.J. Bear and other works through slide shows and drawings.
