The mission of the library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of information and ideas. |

|
What skills do students need to become "effective users of ideas and information?" |
In order to use information and ideas effectively, students need to be able to access, evaluate and use information from a variety of sources. |
Will they learn these skills in the library? |
YES! Information skills are taught in the library media center and in the classroom. The Big Six SkillsApproach to Information Problem-Solving is used to teach research/information literacy skills. Whenever possible, students are taught information skills that directly relate to their classroom assignments. |
When do students come to the library media center? |
| All first through fifth grade classes have a 45 minute scheduled library class time each week. Kindergarten classes have a 30 minute scheduled class time each week. |
What do students do during library class time? |
During library class time, students LEARN ...
- about wonderful books, a variety of genres, outstanding authors and illustrators, and
- how to locate and use information from resources such as...
nonfiction books, encyclopedias, atlases, almanacs, the Internet, CD-ROM materials, magazines, dictionaries, maps, globes, and more!
