From the President ...

Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year! John Newbery PTA integrates efforts of parents with those of our principal and teachers to improve our children’s learning environment. Parental involvement increases a child’s success in school. Over the past few years our PTA has provided programs and resources to enhance our children’s educational experience. Some of the areas we have focused on include:

1. Enrichment and Academic Achievement (Author Visits, Passport Club, Assemblies, Art Programs)
2. Health and Fitness (Running Club, Edible Garden, Fund Run)
3. Community and Family Involvement (Hoe Down, Family Fun Nights, Apple Blossom Parade)
4. Staff Support (Teacher Grants, Document Cameras, Books for the library and classrooms through Book Fair, Staff Appreciation)
5. Communication and Parent Education (Directory, Newsletter, Yearbook, Reader Board, Web Site, Legislative Representative)
6. School Building and Grounds Improvements (Picnic Tables, Playground Equipment, Sound Wall)
7. Student Services (Banking, Lunch Funds, Field Trips)

These activities would not be possible without the work of our many volunteers. Last year Newbery PTA had one of the largest memberships in the region. We would like to accomplish this goal again and continue our tradition of providing valuable services to our students and faculty. We invite you to join us and be a part of supporting your school. Just by joining PTA, you demonstrate to your child the importance you place on education. Membership forms may be turned in to your child’s teacher or the office.

Our meetings are held the first Tuesday evening of each month from 7:00-8:00pm. Complimentary childcare is provided. Meetings are always optional, but a great way for you to find out what is happening at Newbery and how to get involved. We are always looking for new faces and ideas. There is no time commitment required in joining PTA. We welcome everyone!
