I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you what our purpose and vision are at John Newbery Elementary. Our purpose is to provide a learning community that promotes academic, social, and emotional growth. Our vision is to become a community of lifelong learners. To ensure student success, the following is what is expected from staff, students and parents:

The Staff Will:
  • Ensure a safe, welcoming, and fair environment, conducive to learning.
  • Work together toward a common goal: success for all students.
  • Instill the love of lifelong learning through modeling that ourselves.
  • Provide opportunities for students to experience success through varied activities.
  • Use best practices to work with children; teach adopted curriculum.
  • Create a positive, warm, caring, compassionate atmosphere.
  • Work cooperatively with parents, support personnel, and students to ensure proper discipline through the Make Your Day program.
  • Communicate with parents regarding child's progress.
We Expect Students To:
  • Do what is expected and work to their fullest potential.
  • Show respect for peers and school property.
  • Come with a positive attitude each day, ready to learn.
  • Be responsible for their behavior and learning by making quality choices.
  • View school as their job and take their job seriously.
We Expect Parents To:
  • Make sure students come to school with food, rest and proper clothing (ready to learn).
  • Teach their children responsibility and manners, etc.
  • Love and support their children. Encourage student growth by providing for their child's physical, emotional, social and academic needs.
  • Spend a little time each day talking with their children about their school day and reading with them.
  • Get children to school on time every day and excited for the privilege to learn.
  • Read all information/notes that are sent home with their child.
  • Support education at home by supervising the process and return of homework.
  • Make students accountable.

Dress code is year round - Please make sure your child dresses appropriately during winter months. If you need assistance with purchasing winter clothing, contact your child's classroom teacher or Mr. Higgins, our counselor, at 664-8930.

Bus drop off - Please make sure that you use the south driveway in the morning only. The buses park in the south driveway in the pm. If you are picking up your child in the pm, remember to enter from the north driveway only, for your child's safety. We do not allow parents to walk or have their children walk between buses.

Wishing you the very best in 2007!!!
